Breaking Borders

Redesigning the Coney Island Coast

Our design project focuses on enhancing ecological and anthropological coastal resiliency at Coney Island, Brooklyn.

The design includes educational coastal playscapes that engage the community and promote environmental awareness, alongside creating spacialised horseshoe crab habitats to support biodiversity and marine life. By integrating sediment collection and ecological restoration, the project aims to stabilize the shoreline and improve habitat conditions for both wildlife and people. This comprehensive appriach not only protects the coast but also fosters sustainable interactions between people and nature.

With our shared experiences and understanding of the different communities across Coney Island, our project and narrative aims to break the border, soften the boundaries between the gated community and the public, through an ecological and educational approach.
